Great article, it really opened my eyes about lies we were being told about lard. Now I just have to find organic grown pork, butter is alternative tho I guess 🙂.

I don't use lard, only because it's difficult to find around here. There's a Mexican grocery store that sells it, but the ingredients are: lard, hydrogenated lard, BHA, propyl gallate and citric acid. So for the little cooking I do that requires oil, I use butter or coconut oil - I quit using seed oils years ago. I also eat lots of eggs from free range chickens, drink raw milk (the butterfat content is amazing), and my cholesterol panel numbers have gone DOWN.

Sorry to hear. Don't you have any small farms around or online? Here in Germany is easy to find good one for now but with that pressure on farmers I think it won't be for long. In my home country Bulgaria lard benefits are well known so I decided to help people with the info. Butter is good too. I like the taste so can eat it without anything 😉. Seed oils are big no for sure.

I get my raw milk, butter and eggs from an Amish farmer, but they don't raise any hogs. Most of the hog production in this area is contracted by a large meat packing company. I'm not aware of anyone in this area that's rendering lard on a small scale, but I'm always on the lookout for it.
