Not surprisingly, California Governor Gavin Newsom, who is an example of a truly vicious one, declared a state of emergency due to the H5N1 bird flu over Christmas, but he lacks legislative authority to do so, and there is no cause for concern.

It is important to note that many deaths during previous pandemics, such as the Spanish flu, were caused by secondary bacterial infections, which were frequently the result of compromised immunity or improper treatment.
