What Went Wrong With The Pharma Industry

People don’t trust pharma industry. There is a reason for it - the multiple lawsuits about products which were promoted as safe and efficient but instead killed and damaged millions of people. Pharma companies influence and bribe the people who decide the faith of their products such law and policymakers.

An observational study, which analyzed publicly available data on campaign contributions and lobbying in the US from 1999 to 2018, found that the pharmaceutical and health product industry spent $4.7 billion, an average of $233 million per year, on lobbying the US federal government; $414 million on contributions to presidential and congressional electoral candidates, national party committees, and outside spending groups; and $877 million on contributions to state candidates and committees. https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/fullarticle/2762509

Pharma companies install their own people in decision making government bodies as well. For example, FDA’s commissioners Scott Gottlieb, Stephen Hahn and Mark McClellan still hold positions at Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. It is the well-known revolving door practice - pharma executives work for government agencies which approve their products or government employers later are invited to work for pharma companies.

Doctors are companies direct contact with the consumers, so they “invest” in them too. Pharma companies pay expensive trips to meetings where doctors can learn about their new products. Doctors’ offices are frequently visited by pharma representatives. While their claim is that all is to inform, the truth is that doctors receive money for all promoted products. Currently many doctors receive extra money for injecting patients with the gene therapy called COVID-19 vaccine.

Pharma companies are sponsors of the mass media, so it isn’t surprising that we watch paid advertising which is called news.

European Union isn’t different than America. The Husband of the European Union Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Heiko von der Leyen, is the medical director of Orgenesis – a company making RNA-products together with Pfizer-BioNTech.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is handing European citizens over Vanguard Group and Black Rock – corporations with shareholders like du Pont, Morgan, Vanderbilt, Rockefeller, British Royal Family, Bill Gates, George Soros, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and Joe Biden.

Harald Enzman –  the Chair of Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) at European Medicine Agency was a Division Head in  Bayer HealthCare which manufactures CureVac mRNA vaccines in Germany.

Emer Cooke – Executive Director of European Medicine Agency is former Manager of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs  for the European Federation of Pharmaceutical industries and Associations or shortly long-time pharmaceutical lobbyist.

Instead investing in really helpful products pharma companies invest in advertising and buying power!

Average scientist who is the brain behind the breakthrough new products is paid cents. It makes the industry short on ideas. The investment in the fundamental research is also minimal. There is no way to make something new if not knowing the forces behind it. That of course isn’t a big problem for the CEOs since they no longer need the brains. When their badly make extremely promoted product fails they aren’t the ones who would be hold accountable. Collateral damage of dead and destroyed lives isn’t something they care about it. They can buy any doctor, lawyer or politician. The power hungry tech moguls of course joined the ride and censor everyone who questions it. Now, thanks to the biggest experiment in human history this is the major part of the wealthy western population.

What better that wealthy sick people for the business earning from sick?!

Sick people stay home using technology for entertainment. Even after finding out what happened to them the damaged will buy the products of the same companies hopping to live a bit more. They are hooked. They don’t have a choice. There is no way out of the deadly circle. It is a drug-dealer business at the end.

Life doesn’t matter, only profits!

That is, the problem for pharmaceutical companies in wealthy countries (where all their money can be made) is that the population is generally too healthy! Innovation, improving lives and profits can go together but that can be done if pharma companies create medicines, not drugs.

In the past companies as Merck & Co and Pfizer for example funded the discovery of the Penicillin, and Streptomycin, Bayer & Co - aspirin.

Back, then there was a balance between the desire for profit and real research.

While every company wants to cut the costs and earn more money the moving force must be only one - providing high quality product which would cure or relive the disease's symptoms.

• 
  Using computer programs would be of enormous help. In silico research is an underused but very good tool to achieve it.

• Now the focus is only on gene therapies, which unfortunately can’t be successful since our knowledge of genetics is a way too superficial.

• Analyzing the enormous data about molecules and how affect us is much better way to utilize the advantages of computer technology and science.

• Herbal medicine was a source for such molecules in the past but now seems abandoned. It should be studied and exploited again.

• Another area of potential medicine or medical device research should be quantum biology.

Fundamental biological processes that involve the conversion of energy into forms that are usable for chemical transformations are quantum mechanical in its nature. We need to revise healthcare and how governments create policies. A new medical product can’t go on the market without being independently tested for many years. The unethical practices by corporations and governments must be called out and stopped.

Developing new medications is a business which is needed and would be successful only if is done with ethics. We should not forget that good health cannot be achieved by taking medicines but by simple healthy lifestyle.
