What Is Coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2

What exactly is SARS-CoV-2? Is it a real pathogen or just a sequence? What does science say about it? I've written a few posts on the issue, but the success of my vaccine flash cards led me to believe that an explanation like this would be much easier to understand.
