Happy Easter

Easter is during the time when nature resurrects and demonstrates that beauty and vitality always triumph.

Easter, unlike Christmas, was not prohibited in Bulgaria throughout communism. Because we are largely orthodox Christians, our Easter isn't always on the same day as the Easter of other Christian denominations. We paint eggs as well, but there are no Easter bunnies. Kids don't go looking for hidden eggs; instead, they go looking for the strongest egg and fight with it. The one who has the egg which didn’t break is meant to be the luckiest and healthies in the following year. While I am not religious, these traditions provide another opportunity for me to spend time with my family. Paining of eggs is fun for young and old. We included the Eastern Bunny, who hides eggs, candies, and tiny toys throughout the house, because it is a lot of fun for our daughter and us. We paint eggs is the western and the orthodox Easter. This is why such holidays are so important: to bond with family, to follow sometimes silly traditions while also creating new ones, and to experience the love and life.
